New to quilting - Where to go to start

We were all there at one time, new to this wonderful art and passion we share. Quilting is not new by any means, been around for a lot of years! LOL like hundreds and hundreds. It is an art, a passion, it was utilitarian, and it was necessary for many.

I am not gonna go into a history lesson here for sure. It is Saturday and I'm not in school any longer for that topic.

But you are new and want to make a quilt and know you want to have support and guidance in your journey to the first complete project. It may be a mug rug, a throw, or lap quilt or you have decided you want one for your bed.

This is the one time I will say jump in with BOTH feet, and enjoy the ride down the river of colors, fabrics, threads, and patterns!

Now you can You tube all day long and find many ways to do one thing - odd I know, confusing for sure. Or you can join a group or guild. I have Quilting Perfectly Imperfect a Facebook group you are welcome to join at https://www.facebook.com/groups/quiltingimperfectly/ we love new quilters, and those who want to learn from those who are in the know. We do not allow political post, we do welcome a request for a prayer, we lift one another up and we take care of each one like we are related. Don't mess with my family kind of thing!

So, now you have gotten the bug and you are a bit confused and want to now how to get it fixed! Ask the questions! We at QPI do not judge on a new person asking a question, we welcome them and we get to it right away, you may get overwhelmed with the answers, but I bet you get the same lines of how to's on it. That is one of the things I like about my group!

I see it all the time, not being allowed to ask a question because you should know the answer. That tells me they don't know how to answer it themselves. And for those vicious little bitties I say tell them to go bite a rotary blade! That will shut them up for a long time! Quilting is a learning process every day, we all learn a new way of doing something we have done for years, or a new pattern or lay out of a pattern we know like the back of our hands, but we did not change it up! Today quilting is just changed up patterns from years gone by! Nothing new really, at least in basic's. NOW there are some elaborate patterns out there, that will take more time to cut than to piece, I do not recommend to start with one of those, you want to get seams down, tension, and cutting a straight line first!

New quilters you are welcome! You are loved, and you are praised for taking on this wonderful hobby, passion, art, and stress reliever! Yes, quilting is a form of therapy for sew many of us! It is cheaper than a therapist and I know I am one! LOL or I was; retired now!

I say don't let anyone deter you because you are new. I also say don't stay in a group that is not supportive of you, your beliefs or your needs. Never let anyone attack you in a group, and never allow anyone to tell you - you are not good enough to be in their group. It is a free world, and we all have needs, and sometimes it is a prayer for a loved one, yourself, or to get through that damn binding. I say ask for it, if someone gets offended it is on them, and shows just how shallow one can be if they say it offends them. The scroll button was created for a reason and it is called scroll for that purpose, scroll by what you don't like. IT IS AN OPTION OH MY GOD! Use it!

Now, I hope I have eased your mind there is a place to go for answers, and be welcome and helped in a loving caring way our grandmothers would have done, please come join us. AND if you need supplies, come to Haver Island Design for fabrics by QPI at http://haverislanddesign.com. We have Beth Ann's Thread shop now too! Best prices on everything! I hope to meet you soon, and if you are already a member I welcome you personally, and know I do everything to keep my group safe, fun and a learning arena for all. There are a ton of amazing people from all over the world here!

Remember a quilt left unfinished is waiting to love -
